You do more than burn a Glasshouse Candle. Like Alice in a sensory Wonderland, you take a trip down the rabbit hole and experience it. 

Glasshouse Fragrances didn’t just amplify the Home Fragrance market in Australia – we redefined it. Because Glasshouse Candles, Fragrance Diffusers, Bath & Body products and Room Fragrances are as much about artistry as science.

Sure, technique is the cornerstone value of our brand. We have the technical mastery to customise wicks, create Triple Scented Candles and craft elegant fragrance elements ingeniously compatible with wax. We va-va-voom around the world to find ingredients of the highest quality – then rigorously test them.

But it’s the grace note of imagination that allows us to proudly add the word ‘fine’ to fragrance. That makes each exciting new product such a pleasure to open (in our case, ‘out of the box’ thinking is even more exciting than usual!) We’ll put on the white lab coat to make the world a better-smelling place – but pair it with a leopard print stiletto. Distinctive, utterly unique concepts give each fragrance line such cult appeal (along with our instantly recognisable glass candle, charmingly reminiscent of sweet jars from the old corner shop). Caramelised Sugar, Fig and Peach conjure the hurdy-gurdy atmosphere and spun sugar stickiness of an iconic U.S. amusement park with Coney Island.  Yet the burnished gold glass, Freesia and Violet notes, and exquisite Rococo style artwork of our Limited Edition candle Versailles capture the rarefied ambience of the ultimate 18th century royal court.

It’s the alchemy of olfactory sensory pleasure, constant innovation and creative expression that imbues our fragrance lines with their fun and fizz; their heart and soul.

That’s why we see ourselves as a fragrance ‘house’ more than a conventional home fragrance brand – synonymous with beauty and fashion brands. Like a Fashion Week for your nose, the ebb and flow of ‘collections’ can both enrich and echo cultural experience.

 

THE GLASSHOUSE FRAGRANCES STORY
We do things by inspiration, not committee.

The coolest thing about our provenance is individual flair:  personal vision is at our very roots. Can’t you tell that a visionary founder - rather than cold-blooded market researchers – dreamt up the bewitching, nocturnal mystery of our Moulin Rouge-themed Le Cabaret candle? Rich red and a Cedarwood base note recall the swish of musty red velvet curtains; the sensual gold curlicues of Art Nouveau unfurl like an invitation, beckoning you into the Parisian night… Bespoke limited editions are born when a sassy CEO rocks the boardroom and announces, “Let’s do something really wild and unpredictable. I’m thinking showgirls. I’m thinking Paris!” In 2006 passionate New Yorker (and single mum) Nicole Eckels headed to the West Coast, then on to further horizons to fulfil her destiny as a pioneer. Upon discovering Australia, she knew she had found her new home.

Since childhood, Nicole had connected with the primal power of scent – her earliest memories are of cut grass, the family’s wood stove, fondue, the smell of the ocean, and the feminine mystique of her mother leaning in to kiss her, trailing a cloud of favourite perfume.

After a career history in the cosmetic industry working for global luxury houses, and ever on the hunt for beautiful scent, Nicole soon identified a gap in the local Australian market between cheaply produced candles and exorbitant imports. Our heroine took the Yellow Brick Road all the way to her own personal Oz – the dream of creating affordable yet luxe, divinely sensual candles that deliver world class experiences. Her philosophy: beautiful fragrances should lift the spirits of everyone.

From the beginning, Nicole worked like an art director alongside the perfumers to ‘curate’ a range of fragrances ideal for Australia, starting with her beloved green, amber and heady floral notes.

Nicole had fallen in love with the warmth of the Aussies; Australia loved her right back. Born from a spark of imagination and a small trial batch in her bath, Glasshouse Fragrances immediately resonated with customers and has now blossomed into an influential and illustrious local brand – with a New York twist.

We are also ready for our close up as industry mavericks: we introduced market-firsts like a glass lid to protect each candle when not in use, and double wicks for a more robust olfactory experience. Due to its superior fragrance performance, Glasshouse Fragrances was also the first candle brand to reach the blue ribbon position of the David Jones cosmetics floor. Put simply: we’re the golden standard for Home Fragrance in this country.

But Nicole Eckels also curates fragrances that reference surprising locales. Like Aspen: Sandalwood, Vetiver and Amber concoct the cosy fireside pleasures of après-ski under antler chandeliers in your own chalet.
